Euonymus Scale--Issues and Suggestions

I have two Euonymus shrubs in high visible positions in front of my house. Last few years, they have been virtually oversome by scale. I have been "Fighting the good Fight" but the treatment is expensive and dangerous. Neighbors have the same plant with the same issue (a resouce for continued trouble). Some have recommended that I try something else in it's place. Any thoughts/Experience. The two are in a constrained space. I trim them annually.

Thanks ... I'll check it out. It has been my experience that Bayer is "puttin' out" some good stuff.

I had scale issues several years ago. I applied oils in late fall and started treating all of my trees and shrubs with "Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub" the next spring. I have gone two years now without a problem. Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub is a product you apply once a year and gives your plants 12 months of protecton. My trees and bushes have never looked healthier. Good luck.

Below is the garden with the two Euonymus'. The space is more constrained than it seems to appear in the image. I generally cut them back significantly each year.

Tim,

It is hard to make a recommendation for replacement of the euonymus without seeing where they are planted. I personally am not a fan of euonymus, any form of it. Are you looking for something evergreen? Visit you nearest garden center with a cutting of the plant. Explain to them what is going on and ask if there is a less expensive way to treat. I would also suggest asking for some replacement ideas. Garden centers and nursery's are always a good place to turn when trying to make a decision like this one. Good luck and let me know how things go.

horticulture oil is what i have used and the bush that has it still has it. However, I also have put it on other nearby euonymous and they haven't gotten it so maybe it has prevented it some????? Im anxious to here the recommendations of other gardeners. Good luck to us both I guess.
