I really wanted to work in the yard today but when I went outside with a light jacket on I thought twice. I am a whimp! It sure felt cold. I came in to check the temperature and sure enough the outside temperature was 39 with a wind chill of 32. Freezing!!!!
I have to say we were somewhat lucky that we didn't have more damage from the snow storm than we did. On our walk yesterday, Sam Parker and I stopped several times to assess our neighborhood damage. Unfortunately Bradford pears took a big hit. That is a tree that is not meant to be planted in this area even though you see so many. The branches are just not strong enough to sustain high winds or heavy snows. Both of which seem to be pretty common here. I was surprised to see so many daffodils still upright. I was worried that the ice we received before the snow was going to do them in. My redbud is fine and so is my clematis. There were some huge pine limbs down in our area as well. A good reminder to keep all trees pruned. I am hoping for a warmer day soon. There are a lot of little sticks and a few branches to clean up. I would rather not have to wear a parka but I guess if it comes to that I may have to.
