looks like these might be our culprits: 1. fusarium wilt 2. squash beetles 3. squash vine bore geez. so many culprits. I do work on squash beetles and bores. they are quite a pest. those eggs on the underside are a challenge. I am thinking, that in…

my guess is you are probably seeing bacterial wilt. its brought in by cucumber beetles and it doesnt take one long to infect a plant so they dont have much opportunity for the insecticides to make a big difference but they can reduce…

I have this same problem with cumcumbers every year and I think the same thing happened to my squash last year. I would like to know how to prevent this also.

Have you tried rotating your susceptible crops to a different part of the garden? If you keep planting cucurbits in the same space every year, you'll likely have the same problems every year. If you have room (and it sounds like you do), try…

With heirloom tomato's, this is always the problem. Those darn yellow leaves, I keep pulling them off. But obviously that does not solve the problem. Last year I lost a lot of my tomato plants because of the fungus. I'm completely organic…

my little personal greenhouse helps keep me sane during the winter. keeps my fingernails dirty! yay!
not much planting going on this week, but feels pretty great out there, when I take a lawn chair in to chill. time to order seeds and make my plan of action.

Thank You for all the useful info, I think I'll try lettuce too and my strawberry plants should be here b4 march. I've been looking up companion planting so I can grow more in the greenhouse at one time. I also read today that basil is good for keeping mosquitoes at bay.

I can't hardly wait to try this endever . I made my own raised beds to plant in as I have a bad back.I'm in the process of making pvc racks so I can hang lighting.I'm in Michigan up north by Houghton Lake and I think my planting schedule will be later than yours but I have a heater if I start too soon. I have organic strawberry plants comming from California in Feb. so I need to finnish up inside soon.

I'll bet your daughter would die if she knew I saw her try to sneak a ride on one of my horses one day many years ago when she thought I wasn't home. It was a very short ride. She slid off after only a few feet.
I meant to save seeds from all of our grasses last summer but we got very busy trying to get as much construction done on the barn as possible before the winter. We have every kind of prairie grass you can imagine. I really want to add more milkweed this year to help out the monarchs. We are still discovering what the previous owner planted around there. I don't think I'll know what all of it is until we've been there through a full growing cycle. But once everything comes into full bloom, you are welcome out to see everything in its full colorful glory!
Best Regards,
Paula

You know what, I have a hunch I know where you are. If my guess is correct, then nine years ago I lived over the hill behind your house in the "Brady Bunch" house. It was pink back then and I had horses in the pasture. The new owners painted it gray. We moved away to Harrisonville, but just moved back to the area in July. The place I'm thinking of had the brandywine tomatoes for sale last summer.

What a small world! It seems like we are always running into people who either live in Holt, have lived there at one time or another, or know someone else who does.
We live a little northwest of "town" off of King Rd and 207th street.

Best Regards,
Paula
