We came out OK with the storm in Olathe. We've just had too much rain and cool weather, I think. Cantelope hasn't sprouted, other things are just slow to emerge. Come on, sunshine!

I'm no master gardener, but am speaking from experience. If you're starting annuals from seed, I'd use large pots as the shock of digging the plants up from the garden may result in droopy, sad-looking plants. Read the instructions…

Rain!

I got the veggie garden planted Saturday. And then it rained, and rained, and rained. Water is standing in the north end of the garden, and I hope my seeds didn't wash into the next county .

Hi Dawn, I haven't heard of that, but I'd imagine you'd dump the entire thing upside down at the end of the season. I have heard of another method of "vertical" potato growing though that requires several tires of similar…

I used to be one of those farmers at the market! I dont do it anymore, I like gardening better as a hobby rather than as work! Its just so much to do on Friday the day and evening before, trying to store and "Keep" everything just so was really hard. You cant pick too early you cant put it off until the last minute (I refuse to put a tomato in a refrigerator and ruin is so,,,,,,) on Friday the day before market you are a crazy person all day and get up really early that miorning and are a crazy woman that morning so by the time you get to the market you are exhausted. So i decided to keep my hobby a hobby and just give the stuff away to my friends and family. That and i had the tendonitis thing in my left elbow and right wrist and had to have both the tendons released and repaired, so i feel your pain sister, i feel your pain! Weeding after watering or a rain is a must and cultivating??? get a hoe with a big pointed corner. I forget what they call that hoe but ergonomic everythng is a must for a gardener even a riding mower unless its a zero turn is horrible on your elbows. Good luck, wear your arm strap if you have one, get one if you dont, ice good after gardening.

Well, im going to plant Corn, tomatoes, peppers, Okra, squash, cantaloup, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, from seed and seed started in my basement under lights. Am going to add some basil, rosemary, cilantro, and dill. Im going to replant a lavender bed and revamp a strawberry bed. I live out in sounthern Johnson county where we have an orchard (family size not commercial) of fruit Trees, bramble berries, grapes and strawberries a good size garden and everything else you can think of tree bush or flower wise. I guess i really dont plant alot of annuals (but some) mostly perennials and Roses (T's, climbers old fashioned new fashioned) and any others since im a rose finatic (sorta). We have two or so acre yard and im fillin' it up! We are surrounded by cows, christmas trees and crop ground. Its heaven in my neck of the, maybe someday woods! Trees are my real passion. Your garden sounds great cabbage scares me but my in laws grow it so.....

Hi Tracy,

Welcome to The Savvygardener Community! It sounds as if you have lots of experience so I will look forward to you getting involved in this site. I must admit that I am jealous that you grow vegetables. Not enough sun here and the battle with the critters is unbelievable. We do try tomatoes every year and find the harvest to be pretty skimpy. Oh well, we will keep trying because that's what gardeners do!
