I resolve to

I resolve to take soil samples to my extension office, so I can add the right nutrients and my plants will get what they need to grow beautifully.

Susan commented on Shelly Marsh's blog post 'Cicada eating Beagle'
That's my dog Gus, too. His motto, "I can't eat just one!" He has digestive problems, but so far the cicadas seem to not bother him. The most amusing is watching him jump up and catch one in flight. Doggie delicacies!

Thank you for your helpful advice. My friend brought me a product "Deer Off" which is advertised to work for rabbits, too. It seems to have worked on the shrubs and rose in the backyard. I didn't spray anything in the front yard, so,…

Rabbitts!

I was heartsick yesterday to discover my dappled willow bush stripped bare, and they started on my viburnum, too. I saw one in the yard with an eye towards my one single rosebush that I've coddled all year. Can anyone suggest a way to stop these rabbits? Are there shrubs and flowers they'll likely leave alone? I'm about to give up gardening, but really don't want to.

What to do with left over chemical spray?

I tried to pare down the amount, mixed 1/2 gallon of Mancozeb for black spot on a rose bush, but there's about 1/4 gallon left over. Right now, I'm storing it in my garage. Can I use this for the next application in 10 days? What do I do with leftover chemical sprays?

I had the same problem with pips two years in a row. They never came up. This year, I saw some lily of the valley in my neighbor's yard. She gave me some plants, and we'll see what happens this year. I never thought they'd be such a…

Source of sheep manure?

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 6:15am 2 Comments

I'm searching for a source of sheep manure for my garden. Does anyone know of a source outside the greater KC area? Are there any cautionary tales about adding sheep manure to the garden soil, or to handling it? Thanks!
