Thanks so much for the info. I was so disappointed this year. My 3 varieties leafed out beautiful, but only 2 blooms all summer and now in October, I have another bud. See my latest photo. Hard to figure that one out!
shirley - Thank you so much for the nice comments. Honestly I don't know what the red rose is. It was suppose to be a white climbing rose an to my surprise it was a red rose variety.

Did pet therapy volunteer work for 10 years.Married 36 years, 1 Daughter,2 Goldens and 1 Italian Greyhound which is our grand-dog. I spend as much time as I can gardening with flowers. My focus is on creating an English garden look. I have a lot of roses, salvia and I am trying to plant more lavender each year. I am looking forward to learning so much more!

Hi Shirley: Yes, Sam was a tri-color. He'd sit on his hind legs and put his paws up on command. I think the breeder taught him that; I got him when he was 6 months old. So you and I were mourning shelties at about the same time -- the price we pay for being dog guardians. I see you have 2 goldies and an Italian greyhound. My friend Judy back east has one that's over 12 years old and not doing too well. She's a little whippersnapper -- or at least was when I saw her last in 2000. Thanks for the good wishes on the move. I haven't decided yet for sure where I'm going, but it will be either Prescott Valley, AZ, or Kansas City. I'm having a hard time making up my mind because both places present positives and negatives for what I need. K.C. is better for me geographically because most of the people I know are east of there. AZ is good because it has the most sunshine, which I crave. I just talked to a friend in Prescott Valley and asked him whether people there garden, and he said they sure do. I'll see, because I'm driving down there in less than 2 weeks to see for myself. But K.C. has major league baseball and tons of other good stuff, so it's gonna be a hard decision.
Anyway, your life sounds very fulfilling, and you're a great gardener which is always the best thing we can do - it feeds our souls.
Hey Shirley, thanks for the kind words! The hummingbird photos were all shot with a Canon EOS MKIII & 500mm lens (it helps that my "day job" is photography!). The nest was about 50 feet outside my office window, so I got several chances to wait for the female to feed the chicks. I'm hoping she'll return this spring to re-use the nest as it is still partially intact, so stay tuned. Love your gardens; which varieties of lavender do well in our area (my wife & I both like it, so I thought I'd try to add some)? Thanks!
I'm delighted you let me know about it. I've got your instructions on how to add a picture. I'll get to that one day. School has started so life focuses in that one direction. Vicky

Shirley,
Love the pictures of your flower beds! I love the way you have mixed so many beautiful colors together. It brings a smile to my face :) I am also a huge dog lover. Sam Parker, the family beagle is actually my 4th child. I love him dearly. I hope you continue to stay involved in our Savvygardener Community.
