I know this post is old Shelley but It's that time of year again.  I like your idea and it looks nice too.  We gather and shred ours with a  small chippe/ shredder and pile them in an area that we enclosed on three…

Cooler weather is back

What a lovely surprise to step outside this morning.  After Tuesday and Wedneday where the heat index climbed once again into the 100's I was ready for a cooler day.  If the meteorologist are correct we shouldn't see those nasty heat indices again for awhile. I am busy scheduling contractors today for estimates on reparing things damaged by last week's storms.   I called my friend Mark Bartlow with Ryan Lawn and Tree on Monday, he was out on Tuesday to give me a bid and the next thing I know he…See More

Spring like weather has returned

What a perfect day! More spring like, finally! After this past weekend where the temperatures soared into the 90's it is nice to get a reprieve from the summer like weather. Local meteorologists are making noise about a chance of rain Thursday. I hope their right. We sure could use some rain. The warmer temps and high winds are drying things out. Spring like weather this week and a possible frost this weekend. Yikes I hope not. I'll keep my eye on the weather and keep you posted.

Colorado snow

As you can imagine I was totally disheartened by this weekend's weather.  Early Saturday morning Kevin and I headed out to our son's soccer game with the sky threatening snow.  Sure enough, half way throught the game flakes were a flying.  It was cold and snowy.  All of us parents groaned about it.  What else could we do? The bright side, it didn't stick around very long.  Sort of like yesterday's snow.  I refer to it as Colorado snow.  One day it's here and the next day it's gone.  Supposedly…See More

Eating my own words

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 3:18pm 1 Comment

Ok, so you know how I was groaning about the weather a couple of weeks ago and complaining about living in Kansas?  Well, I take it all back.  I just returned from playing tennis outside in February.  It was soooo nice.  No complaints here about days like yesterday and today.  Even my 12 year old son said to me this morning, "Isn't it nice to see the grass again?"  "I forgot what it looked like, I'm so use to looking at the snow".  I thought for sure that the snow would be around until…

See what a little sunshine will do to a person?   I've had this song stuck in my head for the last couple of days so I thought sharing it seemed like the thing to do.

Zippity doo dah, Zippity aye,
My oh my what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine coming my way,
Zippity doo dah, Zippity aye.

Thank you Shelly Marsh, we had about 4 inches of nice fluffy snow Sat. & alot of snow & ice 2 weeks ago. We usually get that once a winter. Temps are below normal for this area. In the 20's night-40's in the day. Normal for this time of year is 50's-30's @ night. Costs more for my greenhouse. I just hope the anthropogenic climate change goons can see their con game is over!

If there's any chance you're out in the Stilwell area on Thursday, we will be at Will Wyatt's Cowboy Couture sampling all the jellies and mustards. They're on Old Metcalf south of 151st Street. Would love to see you! Suzanne

Hey, Shelly: I've been reading SavvyGardener for quite awhile. It's comforting to know that others go through similar garden situations, whether it's our wacky weather, pests or just general hort info. Hope you can make it out to Stilwell to our garden store before the first frost. We've still got lots of flowers, herbs, etc.
I'll be at Powell Gardens on Sept. 12th for the Chile pepper fest.

Would recommend a new category for the forum ... "Pests and Diseases" or something similar.

Hi Shelly
Thank you for getting back to me. I went to the greenhouse site and found it very interesting. For instance I need to get a fan that clips on something in the greenhouse to keep the air circulating. I am thinking there is many things for me to consider. I will check the library to see if there is some books that can help me with the conditions of the greenhouse and some problems that might happen if you are not careful.
If in the mean time you come accross some more information that might be useful. How do I put stuff so that other people can see and maybe help?
Thanks again for your help,
Lynda J.
PS. If I can help people with some gardening problems I will try.
