I have a cluster of 3 old junipers that have become overgrown, ugly, and have started to die off. I would like to help speed up the process so we can dig them up and plant something else. Any suggestions?

Have you seen anything yet? No leaves does not sound good. Scrape one of the branches to see if there is any green. If so, keep waiting. I know these don't like to get too wet. It could be a root problem.

Shellee, I just purchased my first nandina so I don't have any experience with which to answer your question. But I'll say this - the ones at the nursery were very sparsely leafed out. Mine has a mix of red (last years?) and greenish so perhaps this…

Ugly junipers

Help for new fall plantings.

I planted new beds last fall including 3 nandina bushes. I have another one that is about 4-5 years old, so I'm familiar with the growth habit. The 3 new plants have no leaves, while the older plant has remaining reddish leaves around the topmost portion and no leaves around the bottom. I was wondering if anyone knew how long I should wait for new growth before deciding they were dead?? I have bent the remaining portions of the trunk(s) and they don't snap off, but I just feel I should be seeing… Continue
