I don't think the amount of time left in the bag is a critical factor; it's more important that the green-to-brown ratio be kept 50/50.  I'm guessing most of what you had was more on the green side, so do you have more brown…

I've tried a worm farm and did pretty well, but then I got too busy to keep it up and decided to set my guys free in my compost pile until I had time to build a better home for them. Recently read an article about worm tubes which has inspired…

I have a hard time staying on top of my compost pile--too many things to do and not enough energy or daylight. This year I bought one of the black ecocomposter balls at Costco, and although the volume is smaller, I'm better able to keep up with…

Vermicomposting/worm farm

I just started a small worm farm this weekend in my heated garage in an old multi-tier litter box, and I'm wondering if anyone else is vermicomposting and has any pointers. I bought some red wigglers at a local bait shop so I could have them immediately and skip the shipping. I've wanted to do this for a long time and the mood just seized me as I was digging up my calla bulbs for winter storage. I've looked at lots of websites, but since I'm starting small, I'm curious whether anyone else has…See More

About Me:
I love native gardening, and we have a rain garden, finch garden, and butterfly garden on various sides of the house. I put gardens anywhere that's difficult to mow. I keep an indoor jungle for plants overwintering in the garage and herbs and veggies growing through winter under the lights. I also have a small orchid collection.
