What's going on with my raspberries?

I planted raspberries last year and expected berries this year on last year's canes, but those canes show no signs of life. I have lots of new shoots from the ground though. How will I ever get raspberries if the old canes can't make it through the winter? Can anyone clue me in as to what's going on with my raspberries?
