I haven't planted any potatoes for many years. What are some of the newer varieties. I'm especially looking for a great tender buttery flavor. My cardiologist wants me to cut the butter!

My suggestion is try a Yukon gold and see if that works for you
Yellow Finn is #1 with me. It tastes like it has butter on it.
Yukon Gold would be next and is easier to find.

If you want truly unique varieties try ordering some from a breeder out of Washington.

You will not find anything like these elsewhere.

Here is a picture of the variety in his sampler from 2 years ago,

I think Tom is asking $40 for #8 total of seed potatoes.
before Whole Foods gobbled them up the health food stores would get yellow finn potatoes in early October.

If you see them buy them. You will not be disappointed by the flavor.
YUKON GOLD and any red. I always buy locally but I am tempted by the magazines to try fingerling or a blue one
I love sweet potatoes! But here are a few you could try...
Of the early potatoes try Irish Cobbler, Norgold Russet, and Norland do well in most areas. Of the late potatoes, Katahdin, Kennebee, and Burbank are popular.
Hope this helps
