Last year we started Herbs and some vegetables in pots on the back deck (Sunny). Using "Potting mix" entirely. I know that the pots dry out very fast, but what is a good "norm" for how frequently to water. I also have been reading about being careful to limit fertilizer on Tomatoes, for flavor. Is that generally true for vegetables and herbs? What is a good fertilizing regime?

Factors affecting watering needs of potted plants include:
- Temperature
- Sun
- Size of Pot (and amount of soil in pot)

In the heat of summer it's not unusual for us to water a pot 1-2 times per day.

Bottom line: Keep the soil moist
