We've expanded our bed in the back after admitting defeat that grass won't grow and a larger shade garden is better anyway! We want to put in a Japanese Maple as a key accent, is now a good time? I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions! Thanks I'm in KCMO midtown area.

Technically fall is the best time to plant a tree in Kansas City. However, you're likely to find the best variety and quality trees for planting now. With some modest effort you will be fine planting your tree this spring.

We have an article that addresses the key points of tree planting here...

Pay special attention to the warnings against planting in wet soils.

Hope it helps!
