I just heard about these new tomato varieties....Mountain Glory, Red Defender, Scarlet Red, and Security 28. They are supposed to taste great and be easy to grow. Has anyone had experience with these? Does anyone know where you can get them?
You might find them at a nursery like Family Tree or Soil Service. Otherwise you would have to go with seed and if you are in the KC area it's really kinda late to start seed.
I notice these tend to be promoted by extension. These are commercial types. They also possess resistance to a disease that is currently not that big of a problem here - tomato spotted wilt virus.
Personally unless you are growing for a market or live in the southeast/mid-atlantic area (were the disease is a problem) I would choose something else.
The local nurseries mentioned above have plenty of good choices. It just depends on what you want them for and how much room you have to grow them. Also there are a number of farmers selling good varieties at local Farmer's Markets.
