During the Easter freeze 2/3 years ago - I lost my knock out roses. Should I cover them with a possible hard freeze coming? They have new growth on them and sure don't want to lose them again.
I am going to cover mine. The new growth on my roses look great and I am certainly not going to take a chance. So...if you can give them a sheet or light weight blanket I would recommend it. Try not to use plastic unless you keep in from touching the plants. Hopefully next week's freezing temps with be the last of the season.
Thanks so much to both of you. Now, I'm worried about everything but can't cover up the entire garden :)
Hostas and daylilies will be ok, won't they? How about Clematis and Nandina domestica? My 3 Nandina never have looked all that good so maybe I should protect them. My rhodondendron hasn't bloomed yet....just lots of buds - are they ok?
Thanks. Sure looking forward to spring and WARM weather. My daylilies already look very sad and cold :(
I'd cover hosta ( and did mine) I have a million roses but live in an area of "ghale force wind" (always) and couldnt keep em covered if I wanted too. I did remulch my strawberries. I have radishes, lettuce, carrots, peas but didnt cover them. I also have 6 clematis that have tons of new growth, cant really cover those and i also have day lillies coming up and bleeding hearts. Lets hope the low tonight wont do them in. I worry about the blossoms on the fruit trees. Good luck to US
