Growing Green Peppers
So what do I do wrong with my green peppers. They are still only about 8-10" tall blooming. Good soil, with compost added. What do they need? Do they like acid? I do like to use natural, but in the past was a great Miracle Gro person.

Yes they are in full sun!!!! The soil is very amended with compost and some aged manure. Is the soil too rich?

April 12 First time I have every planted them this early. However previous years planting, they have not done big things?

Having planted them early they may have been stunted by the cold weather snaps that we had.
However, I have noticed in the previous years when have planted them that they really didn't get big and produce until late July or August, then September rolls around and I usually end up with a bunch of bell peppers at once.

I've read that peppers don't do well in extreme heat and prefer a bit of shade at times. Mine are in full sun but seem to wilt quickly in this KS heat and sun. They are still growing but not as productive as I had hoped. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon? How much water do they need?

I too am having this problem-I planted about 10 pepper plants in late April and have gotten about 6 peppers so far! I started with lots of blooms and the plants grew to about 12inches, but have stayed that height and never produced any fruit. I composted really well and have fertilized twice. They're in full sun and I've been consistent with the watering.

I'm not having much luck with peppers this year either. I've read, though, that too much nitrogen will make lots of green growth with few peppers; they supposedly don't need much fertilizer, so maybe you fertilized too much? Just a thought; I'm new to gardening. It's harder than I thought it would be; big learning curve going on here! I'm having trouble with blossom end rot on my peppers this year, too.

I have had very good luck with my peppers this year in a somewhat shady spot. they are up against the garage wall on a east facing wall. they get about 6 hours of sunlight...from about 1pm to 7pm or so....shaded in the morning and late afternoon.
I did apply some osmocote fertilizer a couple of times...but very lightly.
