Getting rid of Bamboo

I am trying to rid my small yard of bamboo.  I do not have a large infestation.  I have cut it back to the ground and I am working on poisoning it by hand painting on Stump and Vine killer on a fresh cut every 2 weeks.  I would appreciate any advice on getting rid of bamboo permanently.
