We just had a new deck built & decided to surround the sour cherry tree -- during construction, it was bearing fruit & dropped it as it ripened & of course, with the work going on, I couldnt' harvest it. It's lost about 20% of its leaves & for a while there were quite a few yellow leaves. Also, as we know, there was lots of rain early on. Is my tree just a bit stressed from having guys tramping over its root area -- we don't have any chemicals from the deck getting onto it -- the deck wood was cleaned with biodegradable cleaner. It seems to be okay now & I'm wondering if it will be okay -- it is mostly green & doesn't seem to be having any more "symptoms".

what do you mean by "surround"? how many holes were dug, and how close to the tree were they? a tree's roots typically extend alot farther out than it's canopy. if it's fine now, then i wouldn't worry. i'd say a few roots were probly cut, and it'll be fine.
